What is Masters Games?

Masters Games of Alabama is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for active adults ages 50 and older through social, mental, and physical activities.  The games were developed in Oxford, AL in 1989 to provide adults ages 50 and older an opportunity to maintain an active lifestyle by participating in a variety of events.  While the games provide an Olympic-type atmosphere, the focus is not on competition, but fun and fellowship.  Each year there are between 600 and 800 participants from across the state.

Mission Statement:

The Masters Games of Alabama enriches the lives of adults aged 50 and older by promoting healthy aging through physical activity, social engagement, and lifelong wellness. Through inclusive athletic, recreational, and fellowship opportunities, we empower older adults to remain active, connected, and engaged in their communities.

Our Purpose:

The Masters Games of Alabama is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults throughout Alabama. Since 1989, we have provided adults ages 50 and older with opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities that encourage physical fitness, mental stimulation, social connection, and personal achievement.
While the Games offer an Olympic-style experience, the true focus is on participation, fellowship, and healthy living. Participants of all skill levels are welcome in an environment that celebrates active aging and encourages individuals to challenge themselves, build friendships, and maintain healthy lifestyles.
Each year, between 600 and 800 participants from across Alabama come together to compete, learn, connect, and celebrate the many benefits of staying active. Through these opportunities, the Masters Games help reduce social isolation, support lifelong wellness, and promote positive aging in communities throughout the state.

Our Impact:

The Masters Games of Alabama believes that healthy aging extends beyond physical fitness. By creating opportunities for older adults to remain socially connected, mentally engaged, and physically active, we help foster greater independence, improved well-being, and a higher quality of life.
Our programs:

  • Encourage regular physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

  • Promote social interaction and meaningful community connections.

  • Support mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

  • Provide accessible opportunities for participation regardless of athletic ability.

  • Celebrate the achievements, talents, and contributions of older adults.

  • Inspire individuals to embrace active, healthy aging.

As Alabama's population continues to age, the Masters Games remains committed to creating opportunities that empower older adults to thrive, stay connected, and continue leading active and fulfilling lives.
